Unwanted at end of document

need help

About a week ago I started getting "garbage" appearing at the end of my word
documents. It isn't present while I'm typing a document but after I save,
close,
and reopen. It also appears on older documents when I open them. It doesn't
appear in a document I send through e-mail. Here's a sample:

The content of the "garbage" varies dependent upon the document.

Appreciate any help in how to get rid of this stuff.

Thank you,

You have the "Files of type" box in the Open dialog set to "Recover
text from any file". Change it to Word documents.
