update field data in a table?

Does anyone know how or why I can't get the "update field" function to update
my data when placed in to a table. It works fine out side of a table on the
doc but not inside a table.

Are you creating a table of contents, index or other reference?

Tables do not prevent fields from updating. Let me know specifically what
type of field(s) you are trying to update, and I will guide you on how best
to proceed.
