Update for Visio 2000 EE ?

Fenix

I have "Visio 2000 enterprise edition" and I could install it fine on my DELL
computer Inspiron 9300 in 2006. After the collapse of my hard disk, I have
put a new one on my Inspiron 9300 and set up again Windows XP SP2. I then
installed some recommended drivers from the DELL site. But the system now
declares that it can't install this version of Visio. However the former
files created with Visio are now recognized according to the modified look of
the icons, but they can't be opened and a window displays the message that
"Visio is not compatible with this version of Windows (error 114)" or that
"the file can't be opened because it was created with a recent or unknown
version of Visio". However, "New Visio pattern" is listed in "All programs"
and the corresponding diagrams can be opened. Could you please tell me how to
fix this matter ?

If the files have been edited and saved in one of the more recent versions
of Visio - Visio 2003 or Visio 2007, then the file format will be updated
to a level that cannot be opened in Visio 2000 (or 2002). If you have any
other Visio workstations that are using version 2003 or 2007, see if your
files can be opened there. From Visio 2003 or 2007, you can save back to a
format that your Visio 2000 version can read by selecting Save As, and
changing the type to "Visio 2002 drawing". Visio 2000 and 2002 share the
same format, so you should have no problems reading these files.

One note of warning - keep separate copies, as there are many updates in
the Visio 2003/2007 versions which change the shapes in the drawings to
operate properly. These changes do not occur in reverse. In other words,
drawings that have been saved in 2003 or 2007 may not have certain
customization or automation behaviors any longer. One specific example of
this is the Organization Chart shapes. There was extensive work done on
the shapes and on the solution, and once a drawing is converted forward, it
will not function as an Org Chart in older versions.
