Update installation failure for service pack 2

My MS Office XP service pack 2 update via Office Online
update service continually returns "Installation
unsuccessful". I am running it on Windows XP version
2002 service pack 1 and have all the updates installed
inclusive of the latest dotNet. I have used msconfig to
disable load at startup for Norton Antivirus 2002, Pest
Patrol and Star office. Only the messenger and the ATI
(Radeon video card) manager icons remain in my task bar.

Anyone hit a similar wall?
