Upgrade eligibility for Powerpoint

I recently bought a new computer running XP. On my
previous computer, I had a personally-licensed copy of
Powerpoint which I had been upgrading for several
versions. I was not able to install my earlier
Powerpoint on my new computer, because it was an upgrade,
and wasn't accepted by XP.

Is there any way that I can purchase an Upgrade to
Powerpoint, based on my previous ownership, without
having the software installed on my XP computer?

Which version of PPT are you using right now? Or were you using before
you moved to the new computer? PPT 97 or 2000?
