Upgrade to 2007 from XP won't run - locks up. Why?

Most of the time, Outlook just won't open - I get the main window, but it
won't come up. The message is "Not Responding", and I must do a forced quit.
Safe Mode doesn't do any better. On rare occasions when it does open,
clicking from mail to calendar or clicking on Tools locks it up. Sometime I
have to re-boot the system to get the frozen Outlook to quit.

Did you create a new mail profile?

Really, nothing. I installed 2007 as an upgrade per install instructions. I
created a shortcut icon and dragged it to the desktop. When I click it on a
fresh install, Outlook will open one time. It has imported the .pst file and
all data and settings have transferred. It does a send/receive on startup
and shows messages being received, but they never show up in Outlook - I have
to go to my ISP mailbox to get them. If I close Outlook and attempt to
re-open, it hangs immediately on displaying the Outlook 2007 opening window.
If I do a forced quit and try to re-open, it warns of improper shutdown and
asks to open in safe mode. Either way, yes or no, it will hang again and
maybe or maybe not shut down on a forced quit.

Q #2 - my account type is POP3.

Thanks for responding.

No - didn't realize it was necessary to do so.

It is a good idea when upgrading, especially to OL 2007, to start with a new
mail profile.

See the suggestions in the link I gave you. Start with recreating the mail
profile;

I'm tentatively declaring success - I've opened, closed and re-opened 2007
successfully, and I can now toggle between mail, calendar, contacts, etc
without hanging.

Many thanks to both you and Roady for your help.
