Upgrade to Office 2001 or v.X

I just got conflicting information on what is required to upgrade to
Office 2001. I was told by a woman on the phone at Microsoft that it
requires a prior version of Office. I read to her the requirements
listed on Mactopia: any previous Mac or Windows version of Office,
Word, Excel, Powerpoint, or Microsoft Works Macintosh Edition (version
4.5 or later). She said not true, I need an earlier version of Office.
I have several licensed pieces of software that fall within what the
site says, the most recent of which is Word 2001 + Entourage 2001
Special Edition. Which is correct?

Also, the info on the site regarding requirements for Office v.X is a
little confusing, in that it says in bold, Office 2001 for Mac, then
lists underneath that Word 2001 for Mac, Excel 2001 for Mac,
PowerPoint 2001 for Mac, Word 2001 + Entourage 2001 Special Edition.
Is it possible that only the latter qualifies me for an upgrade to
v.X?

It is a bit confusing. They show Office in bold but list the separate
programs below as qualifying. I would call a reseller and ask them.

If you're a licensed user of

Office 2001 for Mac
Word 2001 for Mac
Excel 2001 for Mac
PowerPoint® 2001 for Mac
Word 2001 + Entourage® 2001 Special Edition

Office 98 Macintosh Edition
Word 98 Macintosh Edition
Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition

Diane,

Confusing indeed. At first glance you might think that it requires
Offfice 2001, consisting of the following listed components. But Word
2001 + Entourage 2001 Special Edition is not a component of Office
2001. Is it?

As to checking with a reseller, tried that. I actually started to
order the Office v.X upgrade from MacMall, but the sales rep told me
he believed I didn't qualify. A salesman at CompUSA said he thought I
did. Help!
