Upgrading From Office XP SP3 to Office 2003

I currently have Office XP SP3 installed on Windows XP SP1 on my PC. I would
like to upgrade to Office 2003 Professional Edition in the near future.
My question is, if I install Office 2003 while Office XP being still
installed, would Office 2003 replace/update Office XP files or will they both
co-exist side-by-side?
Kindly help.

You make that choice during the install - you are asked if you want to keep
the older version.
