Upgrading from Word 97 to Offi e 97 does not work

INDOAUSTRIAN

Wwhy can't I upgrade from word 97 to office 97? the Microsaoft documentation
says that it should be possible, but when I try to upgrade using the MS
Office 97 CD, it says that no product was found on the system which
authorizes upgrade to Office 97

What Microsoft Documentation says that you can do a cross-grade
installation? AFAIK, you cannot use the same version product to upgrade to
the same version suite. See this article for qualifying products for an
Office 97 upgrade: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/158069/en-us

By the way, Office 97 is 10 years old, unsupported and buggy as all get out.
For a better experience I would suggest upgrading to at least Office XP.

Well, the list of qualifying products given in the link you mention says
"Microsoft Word for Windows (all versions for Windows and Windows NT
Workstation)", which I believe I can rightly assume includes Word 97, though
it is not specifically mentioned. The strange thing is that it is also
mentioned that in some cases, Office 97 Upgrade may not recognize the
qualifying program, and I believe that this is my case. However, it does not
say what should one do when the qualifying product is not detected. I would
appreciate anybody giving me advice on this one.

Word 97 is *not* a qualifying product.
