Upgrading Office 12.1.0 to 12.1.1

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

My efforts to upgrade my Office 2008 version 12.1.0 to 12.1.1 repeatedly fails because the installation program does not "recognize" that I have an upgradable Word 2008 application in my Application Folder. I tried installing the upgrade directly from the Microsoft website, and again by downloading the 12.1.1 upgrade onto my desktop and trying again. Neither approach worked. Instead, a window opened that indicates I lack a valid Office program for upgrading. Yet the 12.1.0 version that I have appears to work okay. My Product ID number is 92715-497-4322613-128937.

Can you suggest any other way for me to get this upgrade?

Thanks,

Billy

I've seen this on a couple of machines here that started with 12.0.1...

I am able to install the 12.1.0 service pack, but then *must restart
the computer* for the 12.1.1 update to recognize the hard disk as a
place where it can be updated.

Not sure why, but that seemed to take care of the problem for the 3
machines I saw this on...

Leave it to freaking Microsoft to develop an updater that you can only use if you do a completely fresh reinstall of the software. I know I really shouldn't expect any better from Microsoft, but this is supposed to be a Mac product.

I'm not sure where you get that impression, but it isn't accurate. Yes,
there have been some users who have had to do so and the actual reasons are
not totally clear - each situation seems to include variables that others
don't. For the overwhelming majority of Office 2008 users, however, the
updates have gone without any problems at all.

I have no tried to reinstall Microsoft Office 2008. I have tried to reboot the computer. I have tried to shutdown and then restart computer. And nothing is working to get the update to see the software on my computer. Any other ideas? This is exactly why I no longer have Microsoft Operating system computers. And to contact Microsoft and pay for their own software problems is ridiculous. It would be one thing if I did not know how to use the program or the program was corrupt. But in this case, it is their own product for updating that is corrupt.

Despite Microsoft's reply to you, Mark, I'm with you. My similar problem was compounded by my kid's having thrown out my Word 2008 CD by mistake. Now I've no choice -- other than to buy a second new CD! -- other than to limp along with what I have.

The only reply to Mark was from me, so just to makes sure there is no doubt;

I am NOT Microsoft... Nor am I employed by Microsoft, nor are the
overwhelming majority of those who participate in this public news group.

BTW - contrary to your assumption, if you contact MS customer service,
explain the circumstances & can provide proof of ownership they will most
likely replace your disk for a nominal fee:

You have come into a thread that seems similar. It's best to start your own
thread if you want some help.

Bob,

I much appreciated your reply. Among other things, you caught be napping inasmuch as I try not to assume. In your case, I was in error that your email address implied a Microsoft connection.

Thank you for including the reference for a replacement CD.

Hi Billy -

Not sure how <[email protected]>suggested anything Microsoft-ish,
but not a problem either way:) Hope the replacement goes OK.
