Uploading wave file to server

I am trying to get a wave file object to play in a page. If I understand
the FAQ material and the posts on this topic, it looks like I have to upload
that wave file to my server separately from the web publication. How do I
name, save and send a single file to the server? Also, I read that
Publisher doesn't support MP3 files but I have a MP3 file as background sound
on my homepage and it works fine. I have Publisher 2003.

If you want to click on the object to play a tune (I'll use JungleDrums.wav
in the example) you would right click on the object, select Hyperlink, and
make this the path

/JungleDrums.wav

do an OK

Save as a webpage and upload it to your Internet Provider

Using the same ftp program you would upload JungleDrums.wav to the same
location as your html files.

Now whenever anyone visits your site and clicks on the object it'll play
JungleDrums.wav

I can get as far as creating the hyperlink. It will play in the Publisher
Document but not in the Web Preview. How do I save the hyperlink as it's
own webpage? There doesn't seem to be an obvious save function in the Edit
hyperlink box.

You won't connect to the wav file until you upload it and visit the site.

Ok...forgive my lack of computer savvy but I need you to talk me through the
process of saving this wave file as a webpage to upload. I have put the
wave file in a New Folder I created in My Documents and titled
"webhyperlinks". There are a few Word Documents that I would like to have
links for on the site as well....would it be easier to put them all in this
same folder and upload the whole lot or will that confuse the issue? In My
Documents there is a Publish to the Web icon but it doesn't look like you can
specify a site address...it wants you to set up an MSN account. Thanks for
your patience. I'm pleased with what I have up right now....for a computer
dummy ...but I'd like to figure out how to do this. I build music
instruments and want to be able to put sound samples on the site...

But, that doesn't apply to the application of a background tag to a page.
That is done under web page options in the tools menu. Publisher will write
the background tag and upload the audio file. But it typically needs to be a
wav or midi file, or at least I'm not aware of the w3c.org standard
supporting mp3's now, but evidently your browser does.

Uploading audio for user playback is different from using a background sound
on a page. You'll need to understand what you want before you ask for help.

On my site I have created a folder titled downloads and in it are wav and
pdf files for visitors to download or listen to with the media player on
their computers.

Hyperlinks to these files are /downloads/name.wav and
/download/name.pdf

The only thing your computer will have to do with these files is create them
or gather them and upload them to the downloads folder. From then on, all
functions regarding these files are done on, at the website.
