URGENT -- Resources, Duration and Start/End Date Problem

I am trying to schedule a project where I will have a person working only a
couple hours over a 2 day period on a particular task, but whenever I put in
two hours for the duration, it changes my start and end date to only one day.
If I change the start and end date to two days, it changes my duration to 16
hours. Is there a way to correct this?

myoregon,
Like many people you are confusing duration with work. In Project
Duration is the time span during which the task is performed. On the
other hand, work is the effort (normally in hours) required to actually
complete the task by one or more resources assigned to it. Duration and
Work are independent fields in Project.

To set up a 2 day task with 2 hours work anytime during the 2 day
period, do the following:
1. Go to Project/Task Information/Advanced tab and set the Task Type to
"Fixed Duration" and uncheck the "effort driven" box.
2. Enter 2d in the Duration field
3. If not already shown, display the Work field in the active view. Then
enter 2 hours in the Work field
4. Enter a resource name in the Resource Names field. When you do, you
will see an assignment level of 13% for that resource.

Hope this helps.

John,

Thank you! I knew there had to be a simple fix, but I just couldn't find it.
