Used to Word Perfect, Do I need Pub?

M

Mather

Hi,

I've been creating flyers in WP and wonder if I'd be better off in Publisher.
I paste, size, position, border graphics. I write text and play with fonts. I need to
be able to email my flyers to a computer illiterate group, who can barely download
a file and don't have WP, can't download Reader for PDFs. Ideally, I need to send
the flyers in Word, but trying to manipulate graphics in Word is miserable.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

If they don't have Acrobat Reader, then they are unlikely to have Publisher
(generic assumption, I know)

Convert to PDF - they don't need to download the reader..I reckon 90% of
them will have it installed already - every PC mag has it on its coverdisc
and all hardware manufacturers include it on their driver CD to read the
software version of the manual.

I would use what you are used to. I also tried creating flyers in
WordPerfect, but trying to manipulate graphics in WP was terrible. Probably
because I am used to manipulating graphics in Word and Publisher.

Then save it as a Word doc and send.

I hear you re Word! Doesn't have anywhere near the power of WP
although 2000 and beyond are not half bad (everything was junk before
then). But no matter the great improvements in Word, it still doesn't
touch WP.
because I am used to manipulating graphics in Word and Publisher.

As a WP user of about 14 years, I sympathise. But then there are
universal problems of doct. conversion. You'll have this problem no
matter what program you use. Publisher is a great program. And the
neat thing is that you don't have to fiddle with Word to get a
fantastic finished product in DOC format. If you're good at WP,
you'll also find Publisher a snap. You just do up your PUB doct.
Select all the items in the finished project and just paste into an
open, new Word doct. All the beautiful work you've done in Pub gets
pasted perfectly into Word with no fuss/muss. At least, that's been
my experience so far (without having to put up with Word's
limitations/problems along the way whenever you go beyond a simple,
basic doct.).
Then save it as a Word doc and send.

No need to even do that, as I mentioned above. I tried different
ways, and just found select all>copy and then paste into Word easiest
way that has given me personally perfect results each time.

Good luck!

Thankfully Word Perfect died a dismal and painful death - all for the
better.

I doubt anybody cared or gave a second thought that WP died.

That, of course, is your opinion. We're all entitled.

Sony did, too (beta). It was the superior product; bad marketing
strategies and decisions were at fault in both cases.
