Using Forms

B

Barbara ONeal

We are a hosting company that just got our first client
that is using front page to develop sites.

Server Windows 2003
I have installed the server extensions. the site is
working except for when they create a form. The forms do
not work. when the user fills out a form they get a page
that says. Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on
this page: "http://www.abckuts.com/contactus.htm"

How do I turn this on for the site. I have looked at all
the settings inside the front page administrator on the
server but cannot find where to make the forms work.
Plese help. I do not want to loose this client because
this doesn't work.

thank you.

FrontPageForms

Barbara,

Before you pull all your hair out I would recommend the
client make the following changes to the form.

Remove the email address from the Reply to line: under E-
mail Results tab.

See here for setting up reply to:
http://frontpageforms.com/reply_to_line.htm

Also try changing E-mail format: to Formatted text.

You might also try adding a file e.g.
_private/form_results.txt also set to Formatted text

This file of course would need to reside in the _private
folder. Sometimes when I set a form just to email, I get
the component message as well.

Republish and be sure the client is publishing with
FrontPage to http location. FTP will corrupt the
extensions necessitating a reset or reinstall.

yes I am running 2002 extensions. but on a windows 2003
server. that is where I am running into problems with.
there isn't much instructions for how to step by step set
up a virtual server for running frontpage extensions. I
have looked everywhere. Microsoft knowledge base has
lots of articles on older server versions but not much in
the way of server 2003.

I think I might have solved the issue somewhat. I did go
into the virtual server management tool and then into the
sharepoint administration console. the form
http://www.abckuts.com/contactus.htm when filled out now
goes to this directory.
http://www.abckuts.com/_vti_bin/shtml.dll/contactus.htm
when filled out. once there then if you fill out it
sends to the confirmation page. but it isn't good to
have the user fill out the form twice. is there
something I should be telling the developer in the way
they are setting up the form?

THanks.

Yes went to the link just below that is what helped with
the form at least working somewhat. Thank you for the
link.

I will pass on the other http://www.frontpageforms.com/
to the developer. I personally do not own front page but
want to support my clients as much as possible. I don't
know if you are the owner of the site or not but there
are scripting errors on the page. As a developer I
always have show scripting errors turned on and received
many errors when browsing the site.
