Using MS Excel to create a one page layout from a group of lists

How can I use Excel to create product planograms? I am attempting to extract
or "lookup" a set of information from one list to make it appear in a single
cell on a separate page or worksheet. Linking has been an option. However,
the items listed in the source page change frequently. Any insights are
appreciated. I would be willing to forward examples if necessary. I believe
the functions "Match" and "Index" may be helpful although I am not entirely
familiar with each function's use or practice.
