Using MS Project Mid Project

I'm using MS Project to plan and assess a software development project that
has been in existence for about a year. Unfortunately, due to politics and
this project's "peculiarities" I am only supposed to map and project
workloads from this point on. Is there any way to mark or map "prototype"
time (ie, stuff that happened before for recording sake)?

Unless you have timesheet hours for past activities I really wouldn't
bother. Unless there is a clear value to recording the past, don't. If you
have past predictions on how long things will take and how long they
actually took then there is value.

I would start by listing all the business deliverables agreed for the rest
of the project (paste them into the top of your schedule) and then schedule
the tasks needed to complete those deliverables.
