Using music recorded with the windows sound recorder

Hi everyone,
Powerpoint 2002 - Windows XP home edition.

It used to be possible to record a portion of a CD-track via the in-built
sound recorder from Windows and use that in a Powerpoint presentation. Now
it seems that this is not longer possible using Windows XP. At least I can't
get it to work. Can it be done?
