Using "open" dialog box to search for documents

We are using both word 2000 and 2002. With 2000 we can use the "open" dialog box and type part of a file name in the "file name" box. All the files containing that text in their name will then be displayed. My boss really likes this feature but it doesn't seem to work in 2002. Is there some setting we can change to make this happen or has the program been changed in such a way that the only way to search is to use the "tools" "search" method?
