Using the Join function on lines from an AutoCAD import

Hi,

I use Visio 2007 and I have a problem joining lines and then filling the
resultant shape on an AutoCAD import.

So, I imported my DWG file. I've done a convert once it imported. I've
discovered that there's a layer called DWGEntityColorOverrideLayer and that
this has to be ticked to allow Visio to recolour lines, etc.

I've got a selection of lines and arcs that touch up against each other to
form a single shape. I want to fill that shape. So I select all the lines and
use the Shapes > Operations > Join function and the join goes ahead but the
fill colour won't apply.

I've tried grouping the lines before joining and that doesn't seem to make
much difference. Once I've done the join, I checked to see if it was still on
the colour override layer. Everything seems OK but the shape will not fill. I
can make an effect on the line thickness and colour.

Could someone with experience of this please let me know what I should do.

Thank you.

OK, I've part solved this. The issue was with the layers. I created a new
layer and added all the 1-D lines to this new layer (and only that layer). I
was then able to group and join the lines together and fill.

However, I still have a problem with curved lines. In Visio, I've found
these are created using the Arc and Pencil tools. On my imported DWG file, if
I Join straight and curved lines together and then apply a fill, only the
inner part of the curve seems to fill?

I've got around this in part by using the Fragment operation. This seems to
create separate little shapes that I can fill (with the same colour) and then
group together to look like one shape.

I really would like a better understanding of this (and yes I have read the
help files).
