VBA shutting down application when trying to open

I have run into a problem with VBA. Anytime I try to open VBA, it
immediately closes the program that I am trying to open it in (word or excel)
and VBA does not open. It also immediately closes if I try to run any
command that requires VBA. For example, when I try to convert a word file to
a PDF file, it immediately closes word. I am running XP pro and Office 2003.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing VBA as well as a complete
un-install and re-install of Office 2003. Does anyone have any suggestions?
