All of a sudden I have a different view of my Word documents. Each sentence
is preceded by a symbol that looks like a treble clef and each word is
separated by a bullet. How do I get out of this view?

That ¶ symbol is a paragraph mark, and the same symbol is on the toolbar (or
on the Home tab of the ribbon in 2007). Click that button, or use its
shortcut Ctrl+Shift+8.

See http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm for
explanation of the symbols.
