Viewer 2003, audio, auto advance

I am using PP 2003 running under WinXP.

I have created a slide show that is timed to a .WAV file. It works fine
running in PP on the computer used to create it, but not from the burned CD.
The viewer loads, I click on the audio icon, and it starts and advances to
the second slide on cue. However, it only loads the title of the second slide
and does not advance, though the audio keeps playing. After some time the
slide may advance, but it is entirely out of synch, and in fact appears to be
random.

This also happens if I use a viewer 2003 on another computer with just the
..PPT and the .WAV file loaded, not autoplay.

Any suggestions welcome. Reading other posts did not seem to address this
particular problem.

Right-click the sound icon and choose Custom Animation. Double-click the
sound animation on the slide. What do you have in the "stop playing after
XXX slides" box?

No, wait. You said it works fine in PPT, but the slides don't advance in the
2003 Viewer from the CD? How about if you open the PPT Viewer on your
computer, navigate to your file, and open and play it on your system?
(Trying to figure out if it's an issue with the CD or with the PPT Viewer.)

Thanks for your response.

I opened the viewer and ran the file and the exact same problem occurs: it
gets to the title in the second slide and does not advance from there, though
the audio plays on. It seems to be a problem with the viewer 2003.

Hm. But it plays okay in PPT? That's weird.

Try my first thought --
Right-click the sound icon and choose Custom Animation. Double-click the
sound animation on the slide. What do you have in the "stop playing after
XXX slides" box?

What kind of slide transition settings do you have on the slides, especially
slide 2? Is it set to automatic?

This statement --
was making me think it was a resources/play from the CD issue. Does slide 2
eventually advance with no user intervention?

Also, re
I have created a slide show that is timed to a .WAV file

You should know that timing is very much not PPT's strong suit. Even if we
get the thing transitioning as it should, there's no guarantee it will
transition at the exact time you set it to, especially when run on different
computers. If you've timed, say, animations of fireworks to the line in the
song "the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air," then don't count
on that being timed correctly elsewhere, or even the second time you run
your presentation on your system. PPT just won't handle timing that tight.

If your presentation is mostly just pictures you want to add sound to, it
may be better to use Windows Movie Maker or Photo Story (both are free
downloads from Microsoft) to create a video of the pix and background music,
as you'll have more control over the timing, and both give you some nice
transitions and effects.
