Viewing Directories in FP Publish

How do you view ALL of the directories/files (hidden or
otherwise) on the destination server using FP publish.
Using a FTP publish program I am able to view a lot of
apparently hidden directories that I am not able to see
using FP publish.

Choose Tools, Site Settings, Advanced, and select Show
Hidden Files and Folders.

However, even this won't show what FrontPage considers its
own internal files. For example, it won't show _derived or
the various _vti_ folders.

Why do you ask?

Long story. Had a hard drive crash (WIN ME). New hard drive has XP Pro. Installed FP 2000, then FP 2002 upgrade on new drive. Was using FP 2000 extentions w/ME. Have now upgraded FP extentions to 2002. When I began to publish changes to the site to the server it started copying a lot of files that weren't there under ME, such as Office 10. I'm on dial-up. It takes all day to republish everything. I'm chicken to let FP publish on its own because I'm afraid its going to mess up the whole site & I'll have to redo everything. I have published certain pages as well as the Borders & Themes directories and some of the pages are okay, others are not. Some of the information that I changed shows on the bad pages, but items such as shared border and link bars are old information. On my home page, the left shared border link bar (home page is only page that has the left border) shows a link that shouldn't even be there while not showing a link that should be. Most of the other pages have a top shared border & some of them, not all, do the same thing. I'm specifically worried about the link bars. By the way, I have checked to show hidden directories. Also, I just prefer to know everything that's on my server due to space limitations, etc.

Does your hosted server have the FrontPage Server Extensions?

Are you running a local Web server on XP Pro?

If so, does that local server have the FrontPage Server Extensions?

How many pages/files are in this Web site we're talking about?

Do you have *any* copy of this site that you consider well and healthy?

If so, where is it located?

If not, which copy is healthiest and where is it located?

Okay, I bit the bullet over the weekend and let FP publish what it wanted, so now several of my questions are mute. Link bars seem to be okay now. Please see my responses to your responses for the issues still pending. Even though all appears okay right now, I still am curious, there's no way to view what "FrontPage considers its own internal files", right? Should I just use the FTP program?

You could do that, however, the hidden files on the server are the
same as the hidden files on your local copy of the same Web. And
messing with those files on either side is very likely to cause
problems. There are two many cross-dependencies.

By the way, I went to your site. It's awesome! I'm sure I'll look there
often for answers/tips, etc. Thank you so much for helping!

Thanks for your positive feedback.

its own. That's why I was confused when it started w/Office 10. It only
published my pages this time (that I know of).

In that case, it's hard to look back and know what happened. Are you
sure
FrontPage may not have activated some install-in-demand feature, and
that
what you saw was the setup program doing that?

How did you publish these? [MAM] I both 'copied selected files' & went to
the File drop down-Publish

OK as long as it wasn't FTP, or file sharing, or something else other
than FrontPage.
