Best practice is to use standard fonts and then this will
not happen.
But there is always a way
Place all of your text into an image file (eg gif) and
display that picture on your page.
IE has an option somewhere in it to download on demand which
may work with alternative fonts. This is client controlled
and few people know about it. It also can create problems
when you are dealing with fonts are not free or not publicy
available
