Can any one tell me of a way or the best way to view material entered into a
project plan by unit, cost and totals. Appreciate any assistance provided.

The Resource Usage view in Project Pro will give you what you are asking for.

You can add fields as needed to provide totals on the left side of the view,
and you can right-click on the right side to change the detailed data that is
displayed there.
