Al,
Are you running any versions of the Office System Beta 2? Visio 2003
Technical Beta Refresh is only compatible with Office System Beta 2
Refresh and previous versions of Office XP and Office 2000.
Machines that have dual boot operating systems that have the Office
System Beta 2 or another MSO client application installed on them.
Visio setup blocks installing over incompatible versions of MSO, and
displays an error message. The dialog text specifically calls out
"Microsoft Office System 2003". If you have an internal tool or
unreleased application that uses an incompatible version of MSO, you
may see this error even though you are complying with what is required
in the dialog text.
Workaround: Rename the MSO.dll (e.g.MSOold.dll) on the other drive -
located in the X:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\OFFICE11,where X: is any drive letter on your system - complete
the Visio install, and then rename the MSOold.dll back to MSO.dll.
The block for this issue was strictly put in place for the Beta
Refresh in order to prevent our Beta from corrupting any other
applications. No such block will exist in the final shipping version.
Unfortunately you may want to try unistalling Visio again and removing
any components of the Office Beta completely (make sure you clean
Office 11 out of the HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) and
then install Visio 2003 Beta Refresh.
