Visio 2003 resistor, pump, and other stuff

NewType

Hi, I just jumped from Visio Pro to Visio 2003, and I can't find 90% of what
I use in the stencil. There used to be pages of electronics stuff, like
resistor, inductor, capacitor, mosfet, IGBT, diode, motor, etc. and also a
lot of mechanical component, like pump, check valve, ball valve, pressure
relief valve, etc.

Where are they? Which stencil do I need to open to find them?

I can search and they would show up one at a time, but this is painful. I
think I just don't know how to work the new version.

That is one of the differences between pro and standard. Standard has more
stencils and add-ons. There are other vendors who supply extra Visio
stencils. At http://visio.mvps.org/3rdparty.htm I have a list of the Visio
stencils I have found on line.

What version of Visio Pro did you upgrade from?

Those stencils are not part of V2003 Std or V2007 Std. You need the Pro
version of either of those releases.

Yes, I got it backwards. Looks like senility is creeping in.

Thanks all!!

I jumped from Visio Pro to Visio 2003, because one of the files I received
can't be opened under Pro, so I need to upgrade.

Howo does the GUI look for in Visio 2007? Is it like the newer version of
Office where everything needs a mouse??

I'll ask my IT guy about 2003 Pro and 2007 Pro. :[

You must have had a really old version of Visio Pro.

Versions: 1,2,3,4,4.1,4.5,5,2000,2002,2003,2007 Flavours: Std, Home, Pro,
Tech, Enterprise

Normally, the Pro flavour was a superset of the Std flavour for a given
version of Visio, but you could could open a Std flavour Visio drawing in
the Pro flavour of that version of Visio. Except for a few glitches, newer
versions could always open older versions of Visio drawings.

Actually, to be correct, what I sometimes call flavour is actually referred
to by Visio as Edition.

I think John meant that Pro has more stencils and add-ons. One
specific
site
that has excellent electronic stencils is Paul Herber's:

The look and feel of V2007 Std or Pro and V2003 Std or Pro are nearly
identical. V2007 is stronger in data graphics and also uses the Theme
concept for colors. At this point, I'd go with V2007 Pro if you want all of
the stencils. Be aware that V2010 is coming out soon, not sure what the
release date is.

My point was that for each version of Visio, the basic program was the same.
Where the editions differed was with the templates, stencils and add-on
programs that came with it.

The Visio team has a blog on when the public beta will be released.
