Visio files too large

I'm using Visio 2007. I have one background page with a titleblock and
background color. I also have one page as the beginning of the actual
template. There are text boxes for "approved by", etc. in the titleblock,
but nothing in the swimlane area. Yet my file size is 744KB, which seems too
large.

What can I do to reduce the filesize?

That does seem somewhat excessive.
Are you sure there are no images in the document?

since you're starting with a template, there may be more under the covers
(such as custom code). The other thing is that when the template was created
it may not have been purged of trial shapes. Consider
File => remove hidden properties =>file size reduction
