Thanks for the clarification JoAnn. I had posted the original message to
this group yesterday. Today, when checking for responses I could not locate
my original and assumed it did not post, so I posted another requesting the
same information. I then realized that I was not sorted on the Sent Column
and, after sorting on it, found my original and attempted to delete the
second posting (today's). When I could not, I posted the "disregard"
message, which was followed by Peter's message.
In days long gone by, the originator of a Newsgroup posting could delete the
message as evidenced by the Help file entry below.
Cut & Paste from the Outlook Express Help File while in this newsgroup under
"deleting posted message" w/o fquotes:
To cancel a posted message
1.. In the Folders list, select the newsgroup where you posted the
message, and then select your message.
2.. On the Message menu, click Cancel Message.
Notes
a.. You can only cancel messages that you posted.
b.. After you cancel a message, it may take some time for it to be removed
from your server and other servers on the Internet. Canceling a message does
not remove it from another user's computer if the user downloaded the
message before it was canceled.
Anyway, I appreciate all the help available in these newsgroups... Almost
all the people I know are not even aware that they exist. I too tend to
forget they are available, and I've been around for a long, long time.
Thanks,
Mike
Cross-post means to send a message to multiple newsgroups in one shot.
Multipost is to send a message to multiple newsgroups individually.
And you can't delete a message once you've hit Send. It's like trying to
take back words that are misspoken. Once they are out, it's too late.
