VLOOKUP not copying

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

=VLOOKUP(A3,WORKING!$A$2:$E$13001,4,0)

The above formula returns the correct RESULT in the cell required, however when I attempt to copy down the column the RESULT is copied and not the formula. I am using apple C to copy and then highlight the column then apple V to paste. When copying, the formula is displayed in the insert box
in excel.

Thanks

If you are trying to copy this formula form a single cell to an entire
column, it will not work, because the reference A3 can not get resolved to
the first row of the new column.

Thanks Bob[/QUOTE]
How can I resolve this issue, I have used this formula earlier this week with no issues. I have had same copying problem using ROUNDDOWN function this morning. I recently updated my 2008 software via the update site is there a chance a bug has been introduced with this update?

To do what you're attempting you'd be better off pasting to the first cell
in the column, then using Shift+Cmd+DownArrow [to select the rest of the
column] & going to Edit> Fill> Down... But I see that as a different issue
than what you originally described.

I understand Bob G's point, but that doesn't explain why you'd get the
formula displayed as literal text. Even what you're doing now should still
work for most of the column you''re pasting to. It's just that beyond a
certain point the cells would return #N/A errors.

Perhaps I just still don't understand what's happening. How about starting
over again ‹ Describe in detail *exactly* what you're doing, how you're
doing it & what the actual result is in the cells you're pasting to [not the
cell you copied from]. Be specific & indicate actual cell references, etc.
