Vulgarity Checker

I'm looking for something that will alert me to typos in my Word docs and
Outlook emails, which end up being vulgar words, like when you mean to type
"as" but inadvertantly type "ass" instead, which is spelled correctly, so you
aren't alerted to it, but don't really mean to use that word in a
porfessional environment.

Does anyone know of anything that MS offers in relation to this?

Thanks!

This is not generally possible because certain words like "ass" may not be vulgar
to your recipient. "ass" in UK means a donkey - hardly a vulgar term! In fact
some people don't regard any words as vulgar because if they were then clearly
the lexicographers wouldn't have invented them and included in their
dictionaries. Do you regard Peter Foldes's profession as PIMP a vulgar? If so
why is he working as a pimp using his sister, mother, wife and in laws as his
victims?

Hi Mike,

Have you tried using the contextual speller in Office 2007 ? If you type a
sentence like the following one:

It is not ass complicated as it sounds.

You will see that “ass†is flagged with a blue squiggly line. If you
right-click on the flagged word, you will see that the contextual speller
offers “asâ€. It is not a vulgarity checker, but it tries to identify words
which exist but are misspelled in a given context. You may want to read this
post if you are interested in the difference between resorting to an
exclusion dictionary (which would flag all occurrences of “assâ€, even when
they are legitimate) and using the Office 2007 contextual speller:

(I wrote it when I was still working for MS)

Best wishes,

Thierry Fontenelle [ex-MSFT]
