Want to get rid of Word 2007

I have Office 2007 installed on my XP desktop, and ABSOLUTELY HATE IT !!!

Mainly I use Word. The top section, where one can forat, set-up, save, etc.
is nothing but a bunch of useless ... to me ... GARBAGE ... and EXTREMELY
DIFFICULT TO USE. I previously had 2003, and before that others, and totally
regret using this monster.

The ONLY thing I like in the suite is Outlook 2007; for it's ability to
download several email messages from my web email addresses.

My question is ......
How do I keep my Outlook 2007 on the computer if I do the control panel
process of Add-Remove 2007? I do not see a way in the awful list that 2007
furnishes when one opens the Remove-Repair option to do this.

My goal, along with keeping the Outlook 2007 ability for the emails, is to
go back and install Office 2003 Word and other components ... in lieu of this
monster of 2007.

Just use the Add/Remove option in Control Panel, which will start the Office
2007 program wizard and ask you what components you wish to uninstall.

That uninstalled EVERYTHING ... not what I wanted. As I stated, using conrol
panel offers only a total uninstallation; while the Repair-Remove option does
not provide being specific selective ... merely the 'Run from computer' ...
'Run from CD' ... baloney.

Why can't you just reinstall only Outlook? Or, if you wanted to reinstall
Office 2003 anyway, why not just do that?

In the module list I only see the options of like use disk or install on
computer, etc..; for 07 that is. See no way to install just one, and not
install all the rest.

When you launch the setup.exe for the Office install, you are given a screen
that asks if you want a standard or custom install. Choosing custom allows
you to pick and choose what you want.

If you aren't getting this, then you don't have a full copy of Office in the
first place.

How are you launching the installation program?

Simply set each thing you don't want to Not Available. Be careful with the
Office Shared Features, since you probably still want proofing to work in
Outlook. For starters, I would just mark the undesired applications as Not
Available, then click Continue. You can always go back for more if you find
undesired remnants.

Have seen that ... Not Available with red 'X' ... but have never tested it.
Presume that may be the solution. Will try and see.

Your reaction is not at all unusual for someone faced with the major changes
in the Office suite. Everyone who has the application forced upon them by
employers bitches about the changes. The rest have a trial version available
so they can see what is involved before making the purchase decision.

Just as with any other new software there is a learning curve before you
become reasonably proficient. The simplest approach is to to install both
Office 2003 and 2007. They will work happily enough alongside one another
while you learn the new layout. As for the ability to download from web mail
services - Outlook 2003 can do that too -

though I agree Outlook 2007 is the better product.
