Website looks horrible in FF

Karsten Heimer

Hello everybody,

at first, sorry for my bad english, i'm german.

My Problem ist: My Website "http://www.karsten-heimer.de" looks like a
totally mess in FF, but looks great in IE8. The Site is made with MS
Publisher 2003. What can i do? Is there any solution? Should i upgrade to
Version 2007?

Thanks to everybody, Karsten Heimer.

Welcome to the joys of using FireFox !!!

You need to adjust manually the size of all the elements (text boxes and
picture frames) in the source Notepad file. It's a guessing game as to the
number of pixels needed to fix the gaps, but with practice you'll get the
hang of it.

And look out for font faces. FF mutilates certain fonts, such as Arial Black
for instance. Note also that FF defaults to Times New Roman in marquees, and
if you use fading effects they will not work in FF, as it ignores the alpha
filter control.

Finally, sometime fixing the display for Firefox will upset the display in
I.E. ...bloomin' marvellous.

Good luck and have fun.

You must have fixed the problem, because your site looks the same in both
I.E. and FF or close to it anyway.

You can start by going to Tools > Options > Web tab and unchecking "rely on
vml...". Republish new web files and see if that fixes most of your
problems.

FireFox chokes on VML. Unchecking the option to use it/rely on it, removes
much of it from the coding in Pub 2003, and that option has been removed
totally in Pub 2007. Pub 2000 does not have any VML coding. Just FYI...

Hello Geoffrey,

i tried to publish my Website with Publisher 2007 instead of 2003. After
this, the Website was "readable".

Then i did some corrections like removing the transparent colors and now i'm
satisfied.

Greetings, Karsten Heimer.

Thank you, David. Upgrading to Version 2007 has fixed most of the problems.
