What causes "The operation failed" when sending an Outlook email?

I am attempting to send an email to 45 persons in my contact list using the
addressbook function. When I press "Send" the message returns "The operation
failed" from WORD. There does not seem to be any help available for this
message.

is outlook set as your default email application? what are you doing and who
are you doing it?

I want to thank both of you who responded. The websites you directed me to
gave enough information to solve the problem. The user had switched from
HTML editor to Word, which does not always allow numerous multiple addressees.
