what is a runtime error, and how can i fix it?

i am running works suite 2005 within windows 98SE... i keep getting a runtime
error, "visual c++ runtime library"... the program occurs in c:\program
files\microsoft office\office10\winword.exe... it forces works to shut down
and return to the desktop, and it's a pain in the butt... what's the fix?
