What is Material cost?

I have started reading MS Project.
I was stopped through my way when I came across the term Material cost.
What is this term?
Is it a must to include it in any kind of project?
If so how should I include this im my project?
Please guide me.

Hi,

Material cost is the cost of using material resources.
These CAN be assigned to tasks if necessary
Material resources are resources used up by the tasks (such as bricks in a
house building).
They do not intervene in the scheduling
And if you wonder what it is, I'm sure you don't need any in your project
)
