That's a difficult question.... how about how long is a piece of string?
Limited only by your hardware.
....and the audiences attention span!

Nice reply.

When you hardware is overwhelmed, things will slow to a crawl, especially on
saves and when starting the slide show. A good idea is to split the show
into sections, then build a "shell" PPT with hyperlinks that call each
section. When one section ends, the shell appears, you click the next link
and continue. To the audience, it's seamless.

Either that or add RAM. LOTS of RAM!!!
