What is the purpose of the contacts field at the bottom?

What is the purpose of the contacts field at thye bottom of the default
outlook contacts form? Does it work with the journaling feature

That field is present on all items and provides a two-way link between the
item and the related contact. You can double-click the linked contact to see
its details. And, the linked contact's Activities page will show the items
linked to it.
