What processor(sys requirements) should my computer have to run the following:

Hello

I have developed a series of reports using pivot tables, multiple vlookup functions. Example:

Report 1 has a database of 20000plus records, from which I created a pivot table. In addition, I have 2 columns which return values using a vlookup everytime I refresh the pivot table. These Vlookup formulas read information from another database, but this database if for 2000 records only

My computer spends around 5 minutes calculaing everytime a single change is done (it often crashes)

In addition, my job requires me to have open applications as Outlook, and Oracle(manufacturing system) and another spreadsheet with similar format

My system properties

OS Name Microsoft Windows 2000 Professiona
Version 5.0.2195 Service Pack 4 Build 219
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporatio
System Type X86-based P
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 6 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~1261 Mh
BIOS Version Version 1.0
Total Physical Memory 507,376 K
Available Physical Memory 23,376 K
Total Virtual Memory 3,035,652 K
Available Virtual Memory 2,109,008 K
Page File Space 2,528,276 K

Please help

It could just be that you have all those VLOOKUPs. Make a copy of the
workbook. Using the copy, delete the VLOOKUPs. How long does
processing take now?

If it turns out the VLOOKUPs are the problem, consider having the
database software do the lookups. For more on how to get MS Query to
create links between tables, see the RDBMS in Excel section of my web
site.

This might be less than optimal:

Turn calculation to manual. Do your data entry and recalcuate on demand.

(save often!)

Is that other database an excel workbook? Is it open (even readonly)???

Lost,

I wonder why you have only 23 MB of memory available. That may be the
problem. Also, can you run Excel without that other stuff running, as a
test?
