When I click on a saved Word Doc MS Office openes but not the Doc

Why not just right-click on the desktop icon for that file and choose
"Open With" to select the program to open the file with.

Are you using Office 2003? If so, may I suggest use Detect & Repair to
resolve the problem and file associations once and for all.

Help, Detect & Repair

Also, it is not a good idea to save file on the desktop as desktop
should be as clean as possible!!!. I don't like clutter on my desktop,
do you?
