Where does Outlook Autocomplete get the contents for each entry

Outlook autocompletes recipients in the TO and CC fields with:

display name <email address>

At least, thats what it is for external recipients. I am having a probem
determining where it is picking up the "email addreess" for internal
recipients. I have a user who shows up as:

Smith, Bob <Bill Smith>

Email still goes to Bob, he just doesn't like that his name shows up
incorrectly. There is no reference to Bill Smith anywhere in his AD account
but it may have been initially set up incorrectly as Bill Smith and then
changed. If his alias was Bill Smith and was then changed to Bob Smith is
Exchange/Outlook remembering the initial alias?

Any suggestions on how to correct?

Highlight the entry when it's being typed and delete it (right click and
delete).

I have already deleted the autocomplete entry, then sent him another message.
After that it still shows up with the wrong name. I have also tried
recreating the nickname file.
