Where to start...

Ok, It's been about 2-3 years since I bought my computer, which came with
Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word. Now when I try to copy pictures from IE
and paste them into Word, Word only displays a blank white box. Now this
problem might sound as if it's with my Word, but there's more. When I right
click a picture and select "Save picture as..." I am only given the option to
save the file as a Bitmap (.bmp) or Art (.art) file, which I know should
include a few more options such as gif or jpeg. To try and solve this, I
emptied the temporary internet files, deleted all cookies, and literally
followed all other advice suggested around here. Now in the past to get
around my inability to copy directly from IE to Word, I pasted into Paint,
re-copied the picture, and pasted it into Word. Now, not even that long
process will work. I am extremely irritated and have no idea where to turn.

What you may not have done is specifically this: in Internet Options, on the
General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click on Delete Files... and
answer yes. That should take care of the file format issue. As for Word,
make sure that "Picture placeholders" is not checked on the View tab of
Tools | Options.
