Where's my Office 2008?

J

John_Boy

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I'm the administrator on my computer. I installed Mac Office 2008 under my name with no problem, but when I log off my name and my wife or kids log on under their names, Mac Office 2008 doesn't show up anywhere for them - not on the dock, not in Applications, nowhere - at least that I can find. Any suggestions where it may be hiding? I don't have to do an install under each of my wife and kids' logons do I??

Thanks!

No, but you may need to modify their accounts to give them access to
software that has been installed. It may also be related to 'where' the apps
have actually been installed.

Thanks, CyberTaz. I'll look at their accounts and see what what I can find out. When you say that it may be related to where the apps are actually installed, where "should" I have put them? I just followed the defaults that were given during installation. Thanks!

Hi,

The icons automatically install for the user that was in play when you
installed Office. For other users you'll have to drag the icons manually
to the dock.

While in a user account where the icons don't appear on the dock go to
Applications > Microsoft Office 2008 and drag the application icons to
the dock.

Hey Jimmy;

Did you miss this: "Mac Office 2008 doesn't show up anywhere for them - not
on the dock, not in Applications, nowhere..." ;-)

I'm thinking it's a managed account issue but I seem to recall a method for
installing apps in a single account as well. Any other thoughts?

where "should" I have put them?

By default applications should be installed in the root Application folder.
This will put icons in the Dock for the user that was logged in during the
install. For other User accounts, you will have to drag the icons to the
Dock.

Use Spotlight to search for "Microsoft Office" (the result under Folders is
what you want). If it's not in the root Application folder drag it to the
correct location.

Yep, I missed the "not in Applications" part. Makes me wonder if
parental controls or some other restrictions are in play here.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Adjusting the controls to share with others apparently did the trick. Thanks so much!
