Why can't I add Com addins

This has just started happening. When I go to Word (2002)Tools/COM Addins hit
the ADD button and select an ADDIN to insert, picking one that I know works
for other people, it just wont add. I have tried double clicking, right
clicking and selecting insert and just highlighting the DLL file and clicking
the Insert button but to no avail. If I remove an ADDIN, I can't put it
back. Anyone seen this before?
