why cant I completely set up words 97

Why does my compaq computer think its a Dell computer also Why cant I
completely set up microsoft words 97 when in fact I have the Certificate of
Authenticity Product ID number. Dead in the water at home.

Perhaps the copy of Word that you are trying to install on your Compaq is an
OEM copy supplied with a Dell computer? The fact that you have a Certificate
of Authenticity rather than a CD case suggests that that might be the case.
It is not legal to install OEM software on any but the machine it was
supplied with.
