Why can't I see my video during playback (I see a black box)?

I inserted an AVI video file (created with a technical computing software
packet) into PowerPoint 2003. Although the video plays without problems in
Windows MediaPlayer, it doesn't play correctly from within PowerPoint. There
is a black box where the video should be. I tried various video compression
algorithms, but they do not change the result.

Thanks for the link!
There were actually two things I needed to do: One of the videos that I
inserted had a path that was too long. For this problem, your suggestion of
moving the video file up some levels was great. A second video that I
inserted needed to be renamed from .avi to .mpeg. I am not really sure why,
but at least all my videos now run as expected.
Greetings,
MiBusch!
