Why do I get a flashing amber taskbar button

I have recently upgraded to a computer running Windows XP and Word 2002.
Often when using Word and using for example Tools --> Options I will get a
flashing amber taskbar button. This can also occur when I try to exit by
clicking on the X button. At this time the program appears to freeze but by
clicking on the flashing amber button I can continue.

This is caused by the Norton AV Office plug-in, which causes Windows to open
behind the current window. Uncheck this option in Norton AV.
