Why do PPT2003 sound files change "Total Playing Time"?

In PPT 2003, the Total Playing Time, in Custom Animation/Effects
Options/Sound Settings, of a linked sound file sometimes changes to 56:31:24
and the files does not run until re-installed, and correct time reappears.

Sometimes, the TPTchanges to 00:00, the sound file plays, and the correct
TPT reappears.

Why?
