why do task bars shorten when adding resources

I have two questions,

Why do task bars shorten when resource names are added to the ends and how
can I stop this happening?

Also, when I want to extend the duration over which a repeating task occurs,
the newly added events also appear in new lines beneath the original
recurring task line. When these erroneous lines are removed, the additional
repeat tasks also disappear from the row into which they were added. This is
most annoying and I'd really appreciate some help sorting it out.

Can someone please help?

Hello J,

Most likely the duration of the tasks (represented graphically by the
length of the Gantt chart bars) is decreasing because you are adding
resources to Effort Driven tasks. To turn off effort-driven, double
click on the task to show the Task Information dialog box, click the
advanced tab, and uncheck effort driven.

Check Help in MS Project for detailed information about the
effort-driven option and post back if you have any further questions.

To your question about recurring events, when you add a new instance of
the recurring event, a new bar for the new instance *should* appear.
Deleting the bars deletes the new occurence. If the new bar bothers
you, you may either hide the bar (double click on the task and choose
hide task bar on the general tab) or click the plus mark to the left of
the summary task to collapse the individual tasks up.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
