Why does installing Microsoft 2003 professional install sqlserver

S

steveb

I installed micorsoft office 2003 professional and it installed sqlserv.exe.
I'm using windows xp.
Do I have to keep this running or can I disable it?
What does this program do?
Thanks

A legitimate version of Microsoft Office 2003 professional does not
install "sqlserv.exe".

steveb,
By chance did you install Office Small Business Management 2006 instead?

Thanks for the quick responce
this is brand new out of the box. registered etc
When I finnished installing it, then I did the updates and before it would
update it said it had to install it or perhaps microsoft site uses it to do
the updates. I just followed the on screen instructions?

No, I have the original registered version from microsoft. Microsoft Office
Professional edition 2003. I bought it brand new from microsoft themselves.
I installed the program and when I did the update for the first time I was
promped to intall it from the microsoft site. I selected update from the
help menu in microsoft word and that is where it said i need to install it in
order to do the updates , when i said no it would not update and whey I said
yes, it did all the updates for the office program
seems to work fine, but I'm just wondering if I need to have sqlserve.exe
running in the task manage or can I disable it?

I have the same version of Office installed and there is no
evidence of "sqlserv.exe" installed. I would suggest deleting the file.

Ok. Any idea what this file would do?
I actually came up when I updated from within microsoft word, help, update
that is where it first came up to install before it would do the updates.
Make sense?

Actually in was when I installed Microsoft tools that is with the program.
It was when I did all the updates for the program itself.
It shows this in the config sys file
service mgr is ticked to load each time
and the path is:
c:\program~1\mi6841~1\80\tools\binn\sqlmangr.exe
So would this have something to do with microsoft tools?
thanks for your continued help

If you install Business Contact Manager, it will install to keep track of
your items in BCM.
